Phuket, Thailand (22 July 2026) – Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay has launched “Crafted by Heart, Made for Impact,” a new partnership with D-HOPE Phuket and the local Baan Nok Lay community aimed at creating sustainable, dignified home-based income opportunities for local women and elderly artisans while preserving traditional textile craftsmanship.

The initiative integrates locally made handcrafted souvenirs into the resort’s guest experience, enabling guests to take home a meaningful piece of Phuket’s cultural heritage while directly supporting community livelihoods.

At the heart of the program are intricately crafted elephant and turtle dolls, each lovingly handmade using authentic Sano Tik fabric produced by women and elders from the nearby Baan Nok Lay community in Kamala.

The textiles feature distinctive patterns inspired by Kamala’s rich tin-mining history, created through a specialised tie-dye and stamping technique designed to resemble raw mineral crystals.

The symbolic creations celebrate two important aspects of Thai identity: the elephant represents Thailand’s revered land heritage, while the turtle pays tribute to Phuket’s treasured marine ecosystem.

Every elephant or turtle doll purchased or gifted contributes directly to the Kamala Community Fund, helping strengthen social welfare and community development initiatives in the area.

The fund fully finances annual welfare stipends for 100 community seniors. It also supports merit-based educational scholarships for underprivileged students and provides direct financial assistance for community-led volunteer projects, including beach cleanups and other local initiatives.

“These handcrafted dolls are much more than souvenirs. They represent the talent, culture and traditions of the Baan Nok Lay community. Guests can bring home a unique piece of Phuket, knowing that their purchase supports local families and helps preserve a valuable cultural heritage for future generations,” said Dominic Egger, General Manager at Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay and Director of Operations Thailand at Travel + Leisure Co.

The handcrafted dolls are now available for purchase at THB 150 per piece through multiple channels, including the Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay reception, the resort’s mobile app accessible upon check-in, and craft stands featured during the weekly meet-and-greet events for Club Wyndham South Pacific members.

The partnership further strengthens Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay’s commitment to responsible tourism, sustainability and community engagement. The resort has been recognised for its efforts with a Sustainability Award at the prestigious American Resort Development Awards 2026.
