GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA (July 31, 2024)Travel + Leisure Co. is proud to announce its latest staff initiative aimed at inspiring inclusion and allyship for its LGBTQIA+ employees and hotel guests.

Through its Pride International diversity resource group, Travel + Leisure Co. is hosting an exclusive interview with the dynamic and inspiring Kween Kong as part of its Voices Unheard employee webinar series. The company’s diversity group spans 13 countries and focuses on fostering an inclusive and safe environment for its team members and hotel guests. During the webinar, Kween Kong will explore the intersection of LGBTQIA+ identity, cultural beliefs, and societal norms, igniting discussions on embracing authenticity and forging new paths in life.

At 16, Samoan-Tongan Thomas Fonua faced a life-changing decision: play for New Zealand’s under-19 rugby team or join Black Grace, New Zealand’s premier contemporary dance company. Against his father’s advice, Thomas chose dance over rugby, a decision that led him to tour the world as a professional dancer. Today, Thomas is better known as Kween Kong, a world-renowned choreographer, dancer, and performer. Kween Kong’s contributions to the LGBTQIA+ community have been widely recognised. This year, she was PEDESTRIAN TELEVISION’s winner of the Queer Excellence Award. She was a runner-up in the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under. In 2023, Kween Kong was nominated for the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent at the Logie Awards.

PORT DOUGLAS (21 JUNE 2024)Ramada Resort by Wyndham Port Douglas has again committed to being part of a National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA) initiative to provide practical training in 2024-25 to First Nations students wanting to work in the hospitality sector.

The resort is one of the local businesses providing placement opportunities to students completing certificate qualifications in hospitality and tourism through the NITA – part of Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia – where the students will gain experience in food and beverage, housekeeping, front office and other disciplines.

This is the second consecutive year the resort has been part of the initiative, which seeks to equip First Nations young people with hands-on skills and career options and bolster the quality of the labour market locally. The resort provided a placement for two students last year.

“Over the past year, we have found this partnership with the NITA to be fulfilling – for our team as well as the students,” said Hani Daher, General Manager at Ramada Port Douglas. “Our team enjoyed investing their time and energy into the lives and careers of these First Nations young people and we sincerely hope they will continue to develop their talent and choose to forge a career in the industry.”

“We look forward to working with another student this year and showcasing the many benefits of working in hospitality.”

Like previous students, this year’s student is enrolled in a 12-month full-time traineeship through NITA and works four-hour shifts at Ramada Port Douglas every week, while completing practical and theory sessions at the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre.

“We are pleased to partner with Ramada Port Douglas for another year to offer our students real-world experience and genuine hospitality connections,” said Matthew Cameron-Smith, CEO at Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia. “We’re thrilled to play a part in helping to grow the next generation of hospitality professionals.

“This year, we celebrate our 700th NITA graduate and we can see the demand from students, employers and the wider industry. Together, we are setting up our First Nations young people for long-term success in this industry.”

NITA offers unique training, working and residential programs at both Ayers Rock Resort, Uluru and Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre in Far North Queensland and aims to change the lives of Indigenous Australians by providing market leading training programs in hospitality and tourism that empower an Indigenous workforce.

Ramada Port Douglas is managed by Travel + Leisure Co., the world’s leading membership and leisure travel company. The Australian office of Travel + Leisure Co. formed its own First Nations Working Group last year, which seeks to build meaningful connections with and promote career opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia and Māori, tangata whenua of Aotearoa-New Zealand.

DUNSBOROUGH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA (10 JUNE, 2024)Club Wyndham Dunsborough, a leading beachfront resort in the Margaret River region, has officially unveiled a $5 million refurbishment of its 82 apartments.

The resort is part of Club Wyndham South Pacific – one of Asia Pacific’s leading vacation clubs – with close to 60,000 members and a network of 54 properties across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Hawaii and Europe. The club is managed and developed by Travel + Leisure Co., the world’s leading membership and leisure travel company.

Club Wyndham Dunsborough’s 82 apartments, including studios, 1 and 2-bedroom standard, deluxe and Grand configurations, were transformed with a fresh colour palette inspired by Geographe Bay’s sand, sea and sun, with new furnishings, soft furnishings and photography of local landmarks and nature.

1-bedroom deluxe living area

The apartments were repainted with a clean and neutral whites and soft greys, while the new furnishings were selected to emphasise comfort and promote relaxation. Common spaces were re-floored with high-quality vinyl to promote coolness during warm days, while the 100 per cent wool carpets laid in the bedroom areas enhance warmth and comfort during the night.

All bathrooms and powder rooms were also renewed, while the floor plan of the two-bedroom Grand apartments was reorganised to include an ensuite attached to the main bedroom for improved privacy.

“Our commitment to our Club Wyndham South Pacific members is to keep their properties modern and fresh by continually updating what we offer and providing this type of renewal under a multi-year refurbishment calendar,” said Warren Cullum, Senior Vice President Operations of Travel + Leisure Co.

“Spanning over two years and costing approximately AU$5 million, this staged refurbishment has been extensive. In the last few years, we have also rolled out a free activities and complimentary equipment hire program across the club portfolio and club members have benefited at Dunsborough with complimentary access to e-bikes, push bikes, kayaks, and fishing equipment,” he added.

2-bedroom deluxe main bedroom

The Travel + Leisure Co. team has been praised by the hospitality industry for its focus on sustainability and quality used furniture for this project was once again donated to local non-profit organisations and charities.

Research has indicated the club members utilising the resort, having paid for their accommodation through vacation credits, often spend greater amounts in the economy. It is estimated club members spend more than $3,500 per party per trip, equating to about $17 million in economic impact that club members have in the local region every year.

Positioned on the coast of Geographe Bay in Western Australia’s Margaret River, Club Wyndham Dunsborough is perfectly positioned to give members and guests the opportunity to explore the region’s natural wonders and world-class vineyards and cellar doors. The resort offers a pool with an ocean view, gym, tennis court, volleyball net, function rooms and Toby’s Restaurant & Bar.

Clark, Philippines (15 May 2024) – Travel + Leisure Global Support Services Philippines took the next step in its three-year conservation program with the planting of 73 fruit-bearing trees with the Aetas of Barangay Sapang Bato, Angeles City. This marks the company’s commitment to the community and environmental sustainability.

The tree planting activity contributes to conservation in the Angeles City watershed while providing the Aeta community with a source of food and potential livelihood, as they can sell the fruits at local markets. The fruits include rambutan, cotton fruit, jackfruit, and mango.

Travel + Leisure Co. Philippines employees and partner Aeta community members have planted over 1,300 fruit trees and bamboo since the start of the project. The project has also received technical guidance and tree seedlings from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Liam Crawley, President of Travel + Leisure Co. Philippines, expressed his enthusiasm about the project: “This incredible experience allows our employees to actively contribute to conservation efforts alongside our partner Aeta community. Our collaboration with the Aetas has been growing strong for three years, showcasing a shared commitment to nurturing the environment and supporting local people.”

In addition to tree planting, Crawley also distributed treats to Aeta children, further strengthening the bond between the company and the community.

The wider Angeles City watershed conservation is a collaborative effort involving the government, private sector, non-profit organizations, volunteers, and local communities. This initiative aims to protect the 560-hectare watershed amidst challenges posed by the region’s booming population and development.

Henry Pan, an Aeta representative directly involved in the project, noted significant environmental improvements due to these concerted conservation efforts: “We now see more local wildlife back in the forest such as wild boars, monitor lizards, civet cats, butterflies, and more birds. Also, dried out streams and waterfalls now start to have water flowing again.”

Travel + Leisure Co. Philippines is committed to supporting these efforts by organizing more tree planting activities and an eco-tour led by the Aeta community this year. The tour will engage employees and deepen their understanding of the importance of conserving the watershed, local biodiversity, and the traditional practices of the Aeta community.

The annual ARDA Awards recognise the top resorts, teams, individuals, and projects in the vacation ownership industry. This year, the awards were presented during ARDA’s annual spring conference in Las Vegas, NV.

The company’s Asia Pacific-based Legal and Compliance team won the Legal and Regulatory Manager, Team Member or Team category and Australia-based Frederich Becker was named Sales Management Leader, while the Australian events team was part of a winning global entry in the Special Event category.

The Legal and Compliance team’s achievement is particularly impressive considering it is the second consecutive time the team or a team member has won the international honour. The team, domiciled across Australia, Singapore and the Philippines, is charged with navigating complex regulatory environments across 13 countries of operation in sectors including finance, data, employment, financial services, mergers, acquisitions, workplace health and safety, and more.

This award acknowledged the team’s extensive work during the recent Travel + Leisure Co. acquisition of Accor Vacation Club – a leading vacation club with 30,000 members in the South Pacific – and their endeavours to enhance diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

Frederich Becker, Area Vice President Sales for the South Pacific region – based at the Gold Coast Corporate Centre – was recognised for the successful roll out of a more streamlined method of selling vacation ownership that has improved presentation consistency and compliance, while recording a substantial increase in sales volume. The new method of presenting also achieves high rates of guest satisfaction, with current post-presentation scores averaging around eight out of 10.

“We have a team in this region who continue to set industry benchmarks, who are passionate about innovation and are determined to remain at the forefront of the industry as we expand into Asia,” he added.
